PUWORLD(2007/11/23)——Bayer MaterialScience(BMS)has developed a gas-phase approach, TDI gas-
phase phosgenation technology, in TDI production; the technology was firstly applied by its 30,000 ton/year facility in
Germany and its main benefits were an 80% reduction in solvent use and a 40_
60% saving in energy use. In this summit Christian Six, head of strategic planning –
Isocyanates of Bayer, lectured the article, from process innovation to world-scale production: TDI gas-
phase phosgenation technology, insiders deeply interested in this new hike and the brilliant report also impressed all
the participants.
Bayer was building a 300,000 ton/year plant for TDI production in Caojing, Shanghai of China, and the whole system
expected to put on stream about the end of 2010.
